Week 5: Communication - Your Target Audience

I could use this entire module next semester for my hospitality marketing class.  One of their projects will be to develop a marketing plan for a restaurant, a hotel, or a bed-and-breakfast.  The "story" for this module revolved around developing a survey for a guest house (or bed-and-breakfast). The resources included tutorials in survey development and the use of Survey Monkey. I have done a fair amount of survey development myself and I like the tips about keeping it short and simple and only measuring one variable at a time.  This module was easy to navigate.

  1. Hi! I agree that this activity would be perfect to use for your hospitality marketing class. I didn't see a real need to teach this to my dental hygiene students but I would like to use it to create surveys to use in my classes for the purpose of getting some feedback on the course. Good luck incorporating this next semester. It would be a fun activity to create!

    1. Hey, Stephanie. It is interesting to think about the ways that some of these modules are appropriate for one field of study but not another. Much of the information on finance was really tough for me to fit into social sciences. But, just as you're thinking about with the survey of your dental hygiene students, if we really work at it, we can apply some part of each of these modules--with some modification--to almost any field.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one.

  3. Yippeee! Jackie, I was starting to think that there may not be any of these learning modules that would be directly applicable to your classes. I've done a good bit of survey work, and the hint to keep the items short and focused is crucial to getting information that is on-point for whatever your intended use is.
Hey, I wonder if this module was actually easier to navigate, or if we are just getting better at it? ;-)
    Thanks for your ideas, Jackie.

  5. Great ideas Jackie! This module looks like it was designed for your hospitality marketing class. I would show the survey exercise in class and discuss the answers as you go through it.
